Articles should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format by e-mail to the Managing Editor, Pramila Bennett, at journal@jap.thesap.org.uk. The manuscript should be typed in double-spacing and not more than 8,000 words in length, including footnotes and references. Articles should be accompanied by a word count, an abstract of not more than 200 words and 6 to 8 key words at the beginning of the paper, indicating the major argument of the article and its significance as an addition to existing knowledge. Titles and abstracts can be optimised for online searching.
Articles should be original contributions and should not be submitted to another publication simultaneously. Authors of articles already published in foreign journals should communicate with the Editors before sending manuscripts. A brief autobiographical note containing relevant details about the author should be included on a separate page. In order to maintain the anonymity of the peer review process, authors should ensure that their own name does not appear anywhere in their submission. References to authors’ own work should be anonymised as far as possible to prevent the author from being identifiable.
The Journal welcomes responses to its published articles and aims to stimulate dialogue through correspondence. For brief communications, an abstract is not required.
All references cited should be listed alphabetically at the end of the article, using the house style. For details, please consult a copy of the Journal.
Copyright to all material published in the Journal is held by the Journal. Authors will be required to sign a copyright assignment form.It is the author's responsibility to obtain clearance for use of any material requiring copyright permission and to pay any fee which may be due. This applies to all verse quotations regardless of length, all prose quotations which exceed the fair dealing limits (i.e. more than 200 words for any one extract and more than 800 words for extracts from any one source), and for photographs and illustrations in copyright.
Authors are warned to avoid any comment that might be deemed libellous or in breach of confidentiality.
For further clarification on how to prepare manuscripts for submission to the Journal, see the Guidance Notes. Authors are strongly advised to make use of this guidance, and also, if possible to examine a copy of the Journal before submitting their manuscript. Too great a departure from Journal requirements will necessitate resubmission in a retyped format in accordance with the Journal style.
